I wonder why it is that some people are so fascinated by Bob Dylan that they cronicle everything he ever did? Now don't get me wrong, I recognise the man's ability as a folk singer and a source of inspiration to many. My question might be more clearly stated if I tell what led to it.
Last night I was continuing the research I've been doing into early American Gospel music. I was looking information on
Pass Me Not O Gentle Savior by Fanny Crosby 1868 and came across a link to the song that attributed it to five live performances by Mr Dylan. Of course it had the proper authorship listed but was focused on his performance.
Now I have played many songs over my career and I have heard the Dylan version of this hymn (I would hardly call it earth shaking) and can't help but wonder why someone would even search to find out that Dylan had even played this song. Anyway it is a great hymn so I will post the lyrics here for your edification.
Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior © Fanny Crosby 1868/Howard Doane 1870
Pass me not, O gentle Savior,
Hear my humble cry;
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.
RefrainSavior, Savior,
Hear my humble cry;
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.
Let me at Thy throne of mercy
Find a sweet relief,
Kneeling there in deep contrition;
Help my unbelief.
RefrainTrusting only in Thy merit,
Would I seek Thy face;
Heal my wounded, broken spirit,
Save me by Thy grace.
RefrainThou the Spring of all my comfort,
More than life to me,
Whom have I on earth beside Thee?
Whom in Heav’n but Thee?
